Radio show and teleseminar interviews are an excellent way for motivated women in business online to increase visibility and credibility quickly.

1) Prepare (but not “too” much). Yes, you can over-prepare for an interview. How? By creating a detailed question and answer script (and thinking you can just read it). In a perfect world the host will stick to the sample questions you provided but, this isn’t always the case. You can only be prepared so far and then you need to trust in your ability to simply have a conversation with the show host. I like to keep a bullet point list of my most important key points so if all else fails I can deliver bite sized words of wisdom in a pinch.

2) Smile. This is age old advice for anyone presenting or communicating by phone. Just as people can tell when you’re reading from a script they can also HEAR a smile in your voice. If you want to make an instant connection with your audience practice smiling when you talk.

3) Stay present and focused on answering each question. Its easy to get ahead of yourself anticipating what the host might ask next or to deviate from a question altogether when you are too focused on delivering the key points you promised yourself you’d share on the call.

Both examples can lead to an embarrassing lull in conversation because you FORGET what the show host asked you or, you lose track of the point you were trying so hard to make.

Relax, trust that you’ll deliver just the right nuggets of information and truly stay present to the conversation. You’ll have so much more fun and so will the audience.
